Blues guitar legend Buddy Guy coming to Penn’s Peak with Jonny Lang

And Guy is bringing with him former blues-guitar wunderkind Jonny Lang, who has five albums that charted in the Top 50 of Billboard.

The duo will play at 8 p.m. July 20. Tickets, at $52 for regular reserved seating and $62 for pit seating, are on sale at www.pennspeak.com or 800-745-3000.

Guy, 81, was a pioneer of the Chicago blues sound and was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 30th greatest guitarist of all time. His song “Stone Crazy” was ranked as the No. 78 greatest guitar song of all time. Eric Clapton once called Guy the greatest guitar player alive.

He’s won six Grammy Awards, and in 2005 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2012, Guy was awarded the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors.

He had released nearly 70 albums. His most recent is 2016’s “Born to Play Guitar,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Albums chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

Lang, 37, released his debut album, “Smokin’,” in 1995 when he was just 14, and he was he often included in a trend of young blues-guitar prodigies that included Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Derek Trucks.

Lang’s 1997’s “Lie to Me” went platinum and hit No. 1 on Billboard’s New Artist chart. At 17 he made another, “Wander This World,” that earned a Grammy nomination.

Lang appeared on Guy’s 1998 album “Heavy Love,” playing on the song “Midnight Train”

His 2003 album “Long Time Coming” crossed over to No. 17 on the overall Billboard Albums chart, and 2009’s “Live at the Ryman” hit No. 2 on Billboard’s Blues Albums chart.

After a conversion to Christianity, his 2013 album “Fight for My Soul” hit No. 1 on the Blues Albums chart and No. 2 on the Christian Albums chart. He has appeared as a guest on more than 25 albums by other artists.

His most recent disc is 2017’s “Signs.”

Guy played Penn’s Peak with Jimmy Vaughan in 2015. He played Sands Bethlehem Event Center with Jeff Back in 2016, and with Lang in 2012, and at Allentown’s Miller Symphony Hall in 2011.

Lang played Penn’s Peak by himself in 2015, and headlined Bethlehem’s Musikfest in 2009.
