Mauch Chunk Opera House Means Music

JIM THORPE, PA – Nestled between lush intersecting mountains along the Lehigh River, the Mauch Chunk Opera House stands out as one of the largest structures in the picturesque Victorian village of Jim Thorpe.

Built in 1881, adjacent to what was then known as Millionaire’s Row, the concert hall was a whistlestop for emerging vaudeville stars, as well as a popular gathering location for dignitaries, merchants, and politicians.

Today, the Mauch Chunk Opera House seats approximately 380, and is one of the northeast’s premiere listening spaces and most intimate concert venues. All seats are close to the show, and, afterwards, guests are encouraged to stick around, enjoy the people and the space, and meet the artist after the show.

The month of July showcases the heights that the Mauch Chunk Opera House has hit with a lineup that music lovers are sure to appreciate. Los Angeles-based LA Hustle kicks off the month on Friday, July 6 with a little opening act help from local talent Len Brunson and Doug Makofka. Follow that up the next night with CSNsongs, a group of seven seasoned and professional musicians that perform all of your favorite, and timeless, Crosby Stills Nash & Young hits. Fascinating dialog adds to this musically dynamic performance, while taking you to a time in history that will never be forgotten.

Kevin Miller, renowned multi-platinum drummer, formerly of Fuel, brings his new band, Smashed to the Opera House on Saturday, July 14 with recently added Ash Hill as co-lead vocalist.

Bursting onto the scene in early 2014, The Fireside Collective performs their own style of “Bluegrass, Newgrass, perhaps Progressive folk…” to the stage for a free concert on Sunday, July 15.

A true “songwriter’s songwriter”, David Wilcox holds audiences rapt with nothing more than a single guitar, thoroughly written songs, a fearless ability to mine the depths of human emotions of joy, sorrow and everything in between, and all tempered by a quick and wry wit. Don’t miss him on July 20.

Saturday the 21st brings a tribute to Bob Dylan with The “The Band” Band and Raleigh, NC-based Chatham County Line follows up on Thursday the 26th with their top-notch, original modern acoustic music.

July closes with Elton John tribute band Benny and the Jets. Greg Ransom plays the Elton John character with aplomb, but most importantly – he has mastered the songs, both vocally and on the piano.

All in all, a classic Mauch Chunk Opera House lineup for a sizzlin’ summer in Jim Thorpe. Be there or be square!
