Shawnee Riverfest is excited to announce an addition to it’s entertainment filled weekend, with Race 2 Riverfest (R2R) at Phoenix Athletica. Race 2 Riverfest, is a cycling event aimed at supporting our children through the Healthy Start Program by Pocono Alliance. “How a child plays, learns, sees, speaks, moves and behaves all offer important clues about a child’s development. Since 2004 Pocono Alliance’s Healthy Start Early Childhood Screenings Program (for children up to 5 years of age) has provided over 13,000 vision, hearing, and developmental screenings to determine whether a child is developing on track with 1531 needing further evaluation and intervention. The short time it takes to conduct a screening can play an important role in making sure all children in Monroe County thrive,” says Roxanne Powell, Director of Development for Pocono Alliance. “We are excited to engage the dynamic fitness community that exists here in the Poconos, and bring our talents together and support the Healthy Start Program by Pocono Alliance,” says Shawnee Riverfest Event Organizer and Founder Gil Coronado.
Race 2 Riverfest, will be held Saturday July 7th, and feature teams of cyclists who have fund raised for this event. There will be special guest Instructors, motivating the cyclists during this event, which will feature DJ Ruby, SPECIAL LIVE performances by Shawnee Riverfest favorite Shawnee Riverfest act Wild Planes, and new artist HAVEN with her pop uptempo tracks. Cycling Instructor Maddy Southern of MadTime Fitness, is excited to participate in Race 2 Riverfest, with more Instructors to be announced soon. All participants will receive a Race 2 Riverfest T-Shirt, and a ticket to the exclusive Shawnee Riverfest PreParty at Sycamore Grille. Participants will have the opportunity to be the first to meet these incredible artists coming to support our community, connect with them, and hear live impromptu performances. The team that raises the most donations for the Healthy Start Program, will receive the first Race 2 Riverfest award during the LIVE 8 hour free concert at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on Sunday July 8th.
This year’s exciting Shawnee Riverfest Concert roster includes International Latin Artist Nicolas Emdem, and returning favorites Bobby Syvarth, Minnie Dee, Fusia Dance Company, Shawnee Playhouse Cast of “Willy Wonka”, and Wild Planes. “All of us here at Wild Planes are SUPER excited to be a part of Shawnee Riverfest VII and Race 2 Riverfest. This will be our 3rd year performing!! Being able to play our music for such a great cause is amazing. This year is gonna be bigger and better than ever! A big thank you to the Pocono Alliance for all that they do! Can’t wait to see you all out there!” says Andre Jevnik of the crowd favorite band Wild Planes. There will also be new acts Haven, Fives, Almond&Olive, A Second Life, and Gianna LaMantia. Host of the Latin Lifestyle show “Beautiful Day/ Un Dia Bonito” Giselle Figueroa will act as one of the Emcee’s during this 8 hour free concert.
