The Glen Onoko Guesthouse welcomes you to sleep in a piece of history – an old Mercantile store built in 1874 – that used to be an ice cream soda shop! This historic home was known as the Mrs. Annie Martz building, who resided above the business from 1901-1915. While no longer offered as a mercantile trade, today the building is re-imagined as a place for adventure seekers to vacation like a local and explore the natural beauty of the town of Jim Thorpe.
Over the years, the building has served in a variety of uses. An effort was made to respect the existing square foot of building, while at the same time keeping the existing late 19th Century architectural style intact. In this type of building, the ceilings are quite high (10 ft). The original doors and trimming were restored to preserve the authenticity. Many of the original details remain, such as the polished wood pillars and the double doors with transoms.
For those that are unfamiliar, a transom is a window that sits above a door. They allow natural light into the center of the space. Lighting is essential, so why not make it amazing? It’s the first thing you see when you walk into the bedroom. The reflection bounces the light on the lacquered ceiling and beautiful warm white walls. Crystal chandeliers give visual balance to the bedroom’s tall ceilings. Brand new oak hardwood flooring adds wonderful warmth to the private oasis that is the Serenity Suite. Two full-length brass framed tri-fold mirrors add modern style to the Suite.
Guests have options to choose from – the Serenity Suite for two, with a Queen size bed, or a larger rental that sits above the business on two floors. Perfect for friends and family to gather, this rental sleeps up to eight in three bedrooms and features a modern kitchen with new hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances. The Guesthouse is centrally located, close to all activities and attractions. There is on-site parking for several vehicles and includes an outdoor courtyard with BBQ propane gas grill with a shrubbery border and an outdoor deck for a breezy place to unwind.
