JIM THORPE, PA – Forbes Magazine recently unveiled the results of TripAdvisor’s 2019 ‘Travellers’ Choice Awards’. The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast in Jim Thorpe was named #1 B&B in the U.S., and #6 B&B in the world.
This coveted awards is the result of actual guest reviews and ratings in TripAdvisor.
“The world’s best Bed and Breakfast was awarded to The 25, a six-room boutique B&B in Torquay, England, housed in an Edwardian building that, according to reviews, bears a resemblance to the fictional Fawlty Towers, that was also in Torquay.
One American B&B made it to the 10-best list: The Parsonage B&B in Jim Thorpe. The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast is the historic ‘Webster House’; built in 1837 for the Reverend Richard Webster. This landmark property is among many other architecturally and historically important buildings within Jim Thorpe’s nationally famous ‘Historic District’. The B&B features the art, antiques and collections of Innkeepers Jeffri Coleman and Michael Rivkin, amassed from decades of travel throughout the US, and 65 countries abroad. Locals call it “The Museum” due to the extensive and varied artifacts on display. The B&B combines this fascinating backdrop with the service and amenities of a fine Inn, thus providing a truly unique guest-experience.
The couple met in culinary school in 1978, and Jeffri continues his craft as chef of the B&B — an important piece of the guest experience and reviews. Noted for his use of the excellent products available locally, his 3 course breakfasts – known as ‘Coal Cracker Spa’ cuisine combine these regional ingredients with recipes inspired from his travels and the flavors of the Pennsylvania Coal Regions.
When asked about their award, Coleman replied: “We were totally surprised by this. We had no idea; one of our guests alerted us to it! The truth is, this recognition is not just about the B&B; it’s about all the great pubs and restaurants, shops, entertainment and history here in Jim Thorpe. They come for the entire experience. We are a part of the offerings that bring them… a ‘home base’ for their experience”. Rivkin added: “We are extremely lucky to be in Jim Thorpe… Our timing was perfect. This is the coolest small town going!”.
