Three PA Jazz Venues Team up to Produce 12-Hour Benefit Concert
The Deer Head Inn, Delaware Water Gap; Lafayette Bar, Easton; and Vic’s Jazz Loft at the Stabin Museum, Jim Thorpe, are teaming up to present: Jazz Concert for Ukraine on Thursday, April 7, from 12 pm to midnight. The three jazz venues will bring together over 50 of the tri-state area’s premier jazz artists for a 12-hour long concert to benefit those affected by the crisis in Ukraine.
Jazz Concert for Ukraine will feature performances at all three venues and be live-streamed. The performance will begin at Lafayette Bar from noon-4 pm, Vic’s Jazz Loft from 4–7 pm and 10-midnight, and The Deer Head Inn from 7–10 pm. The confirmed lineup includes Bakithi Kumalo, Dan Wilkins, Ian Froman, Adam Neiwood, Gene Perla, Mike Riekenberg, Ron Oswanski, Morrie Louden, Jon Ballantyne, Marko Marcinko, Norbert Stachel, Bill Washer, Bill Goodwin, and more.
Daniel Gonzalez, artistic director for Vic’s Jazz Loft contacted the artists and venues to organize the schedule for the benefit. “As a combat veteran, I understand the harsh realities of war. As a jazz artist, I know what the power of music can do to heal and unite. Jazz Concert for Ukraine is about uniting – three jazz venues and dozens of jazz artists – to benefit victims of an unjust war.”
The link to the live video stream will be at JazzConcertforUkraine.org with a link for online donations. Tickets for attending the live events will be available for each venue at vicsjazzloft.com Suggested donation is $25. All proceeds from the Jazz Concert for Ukraine will go to Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Doctors Without Borders allows funds to be donated specifically to Ukraine.
In Ukraine, the IRC is working to support the evacuation of women and children and to provide psychological support, blankets, sleeping bags, and warm clothes to people who have been displaced. They are on the ground in Poland, providing support to some of the 2 million people who have arrived from Ukraine.
There will also be live and silent auctions at Vic’s Jazz Loft of donations from Red Cymbals of Australia, Bucks County Drum Company, and others.
