History and Freedom with Betsy Ross and Benjamin Franklin

By Kaila Buck Alao and Karliene Zack • Special to The Current

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States and its rich history and freedom with two important historical figures brought back to life!

The Mauch Chunk Museum & Cultural Center presents “Afternoon Tea w/ Betsy Ross & Benjamin Franklin”! This event will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 4pm to 6pm in The Ballroom at the Mauch Chunk Museum & Cultural Center.

Enjoy finger sandwiches, fresh fruits, a variety of sweets and, of course, tea while Betsy Ross and Benjamin Franklin (performed by Philadelphia-based reenactors, Alisa Dupuy and Robert DeVitis) regale the audience with the history of our nation and what these very influential pillars of our past did for the United States. Betsy Ross was an American seamstress who fashioned and designed the first United States flag and Benjamin Franklin was one of our nation’s Founding Fathers who helped draft and sign the Declaration of Independence.

Later, our guests will be able to enjoy a selection of historical American songs performed live by local musician David Matsinko. Tickets are $50 per person; a table for 8 is $380. Seats are limited and reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite at: www.eventbrite.com/e/afternoon-tea-w-betsy-ross-benjamin-franklin-tickets-1986011421624 or by calling 570-325-9190.

About the Ladies of History: Owner Alisa Dupuy began the business in 2006. It was called Historical Teas and her main clients at the time were Tea Rooms. Since then, however, Alisa has branched out and her list of clients has grown to include historical societies, libraries, bed and breakfasts, book clubs, social clubs, church fundraisers and schools.

The main goal of “The Ladies of History” is to make history fun, exciting and memorable in addition to highlighting the contributions that women have made to history. “The Ladies of History” performs all year round in various venues and is also available for private parties.

About Robert DeVitis: The witty Ben Franklin is one of the best Ben Franklin impersonators in Philadelphia. The looks, mannerisms and especially the wit of Ben Franklin come to life as if he were here today.

Ben Franklin impersonator, Robert DeVitis, researched in depth to give tribute to this great man. He is the Ben Franklin of today.

About David Matsinko: Dave is a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer, and teacher from NEPA, who performs traditional and modern acoustic Americana music. Through his music, Dave carries forward the stories and musical legacy of the people and history of Pennsylvania.
