Author, Michael E. Riley, a resident of Jim Thorpe has penned his 2nd novel. The premise was inspired by a childhood story told to him by his wife of forty years.
“The inspiration for this book came from a story my wife told me. Her father had to work plus raise her and a younger brother in addition to taking care of her sickly mother, and because of that, her childhood was stressful and traumatic.
One day she found a stray dog and brought him home. The dog was a welcome diversion from the family’s hardships, but he only stayed with them for about six months and then ran off. Many months later, the dog reappeared at their doorstep, stayed with them for another six to eight months, then disappeared again. That routine continued for about four years until her father saw the dog in another neighborhood and discovered he was moving back and forth between two separate households.
My wife told me it was strange because the dog seemed to show up at just the right time when she most needed a friend. She called the dog Lucky.
After I heard that story, my first thought was – I wonder what the dog was thinking.”
