Oktoberfest
The world’s largest folk festival is Oktoberfest and takes place every year in Munich, Germany. It runs from mid-September to the first weekend in October. Unfortunately, the festival was cancelled this year and last year due to Covid.
When it goes full on, in those few weeks, they serve up to 1.7 million gallons of Oktoberfest beer.
Google, “how tall would a glass be if it held 1.7 million gallons of beer?”
Google, no easy answer. Beer to the moon!
The 2022 fest is scheduled to begin September 17, let’s all prost to that! Oktoberfest is typically a lager, which means it is “lagered” or aged at a cold temperature when fermentation is complete. It’s flavor profile, is rich, toasty and malty, balanced with a refreshing hoppy finish.
Our favorite local Brewery, Berwick Brewing Co., will be keeping the Marion Hose supplied all month long. Danke schön!
Oktoberfest Fail? Try Pumpkin Ale
As summers light and citrusy IPA’s and Belgian wheats get kicked. This lightly spiced Ale captures the flavors of the summer weary, very ready for sweatshirts, cooler autumn season.
Another fantastic local brewery in Pittston, PA makes a fantastic pumpkin ale. Susquehanna Brewing Co. is out with its quintessential “fall in a glass” brew, and we are all happy for it.
Yes, this wheat ale is made with actual pumpkin and spice. So nice!
Ports and Stouts, Are All About….
Fun flavors! Bourbon barrel aged, cherry, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and peanut butter? Sweet Baby Jesus! Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, yes IT’S out there.
Check out Du Claw Brewing Co., and then go to confession.
If The Beer Brew Is Not For You
Cider! Thank heavens we are in apple country. Our Pennsylvania orchards produce copious amounts of beautiful fresh, juicy, crisp, delicious apples. Which means we get fabulous ciders of the fermented, boozy kind.
Wild Elder Wine & Cider Co., right here in Jim Thorpe creates a delicious, nose tickling, effervescing cider produced from locally sourced apples.
Stop in to their tasting room on Broadway and experience it now.
Find a brew, maybe a pot of stew and sweatshirt too.
Welcome to FALL in Jim Thorpe!
