Hello my fellow lovers of the Pocono Mountains! With Spring upon us and all of the mild weather, this month’s adventure takes us on a journey to discover golf in the Poconos.
Let’s start with Split Rock Resort and Golf Club. Located less than a mile from our office, it has incredible views! Split Rock is a public course that offers 27-holes of traditional golf. The 11th hole is a challenging 585-yard hole that is famous to claim one of the most spectacular views in the entire Northeast. This golf course has a lot to offer; including a full-service clubhouse with locker rooms, ½ Way Café on the turn, EZ-GO RXV electric carts, a full driving range, and two practice putting greens.
The unique design and changing elevation make it a challenging course to maneuver. If you need a little help with your game, Split Rock has professional instructors on hand to help you improve. They even hold lessons and golfing clinics regularly throughout the season.
I can’t leave out one of their newest additions; the 18 Hole Foot Golf Course! This new sport is a combination of Golf and Soccer. Players use soccer balls to play on a traditional golf course, but the holes are 21 inches in diameter. This is a fun family sport which is built within the 9 Hole South Course. They designed it so that it doesn’t encroach on the holes of the traditional golf course. The golfers and foot golfers can be enjoying their passion simultaneously!
Our next stop, Jack Frost National Golf Club is considered to be a “large golf course” spanning over 7,200 yards and more than 200 acres. This 18-hole, public course is located on the crest of Jack Frost Mountain which has an elevation of 2,000 feet. Golfers love to enjoy the scenic views while trying their luck on the course.
With a recently revamped practice area, they feature a new chipping green with bunkers, a two-tee short game area, putting green, and a three-tee Kentucky Blue Grass driving range. The driving range is open for enjoyment all season, while the practice facility operates on the same hours and schedule as the golf course.
Something interesting that I discovered… How do you make a golf course greener? Jack Frost National is enrolled in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. This is done to ensure that the course helps to protect our local environment, conserve natural resources, and provide habitats for wildlife.
You may remember this next one from my last article, “The Poconos, Honeymoon Capitol of the World”. Let’s get into more of the details on this hidden gem. Hideaway Hills is a premier 18-hole, 6,933-yard course open to the public. The features include four lakes, spectacular elevation changes, over 60 sand traps, and a signature Island Green. There is a 2-tiered turf driving range, putting and chipping green.
The Grill Room offers food and drinks to players waiting to tee off and on the turn. The lush grounds are controlled by a tee-to-green automated irrigation system. These beautiful rolling hills have been challenging golfers for years. Located in Kresgeville, it has stunning views of the nearby Blue Mountain Range.
The course holds many golf outings, tournaments, fundraisers, and banquets. With such a large seating capacity, it makes this a great location for any event. The cozy cottages are the perfect size for a fun-filled golf weekend!
These could be the 1st few steps of your Pocono golf adventure… Some other courses that will fuel your inner explorer are Stone Meadows Golf Course, Indian Mountain Golf Course, Mountain Laurel Golf Club and Blue Shamrock Golf Club.
However, if you happen to be a non-golfing spouse, don’t worry! There is a wide range of activities here for you as well! You will have plenty of time to check out the shopping, get pampered at one of the spas, enjoy a show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, and taste some delicious food.
Whatever your desired adventure is, the Pocono Mountains has it! Please check back next month to see the events scheduled for Spring. Always remember Century 21 as the gateway to Your Pocono Dreams.
