The 2023 Carbon County Fair

By Natalya Bucuy • The Current Contributing Writer

Nothing says summer like a good ol’ county fair. Carbon County Fair returns for its 19th year to bring together youth livestock education and summer family fun. This year, the fair returns to the fairgrounds in Palmerton from August 7 to August 12.

The celebration will start at 5pm on August 7 with an opening ceremony and the crowning of the fair queen. Throughout the month of July, the Fair Queen Contestants, who must be between the ages of 16 and 20 and residents of the county, competed for the title through a number of competition phases. Those included an essay, an interview with the judges, and a prepared speech. Musical entertainment with DJ Chicken Nugget from 6pm to 9pm and fireworks at 9:30pm will complete the evening.

Tuesday, August 8 marks the Children’s Day of the Fair. Rides and live entertainment will run from 4pm to 10pm. Special drawing for great prizes, including six Bicycles and electronics. Andy Armadillo, mascot from Texas Roadhouse will visit and present children with a bookmark that contains a ticket for a free children’s meal. A stunt performance from Amazing Anastasini will perform at the Fair daily. Tuesday’s event will also include an Alan Jackson tribute, a lumberjack competition at the main arena at 5pm, 6:30pm, and 8pm, and a bicycle giveaway at 7:45pm.

Other events throughout the week include Barnyard Olympics, a baking contest, a livestock display and competition, a micro wrestling match, a marching band performance, face painting, ax throwing, and various musical entertainment. Various vendors and amusement rides with daily specials complete the festivities.

The Carbon County Lion/Lioness Fair Association, Inc. was created in January 1999. The fair was created to showcase the animals and projects of the youth in Carbon County and West Penn Township and provide the recognition and positive reinforcement that they so greatly deserve.

Tickets are $7 daily. For more information, visit carboncountyfair.com
