If every town has a Hippie Shop, then Jim Thorpe has one of the best! Shelli Holland has been in business 22 years. Opening in March of 1997, Horizons has become a town icon and is located as you turn the corner to Race Street – across Broadway from the Opera House. Colorful and inviting hippie flowers adorn the front of the building with a bench out front for visitors to rest and watch others practice with embellished Hula Hoops.
Specializing in Grateful Dead and other hippy goods, the best selling items are tie dye shirts, incense and glassware. Shelli’s vision was to pursue a career that suited her lifestyle, “As of today I wouldn’t change a thing . . . I made the right career choice.”
Success Story
By being open regularly and listening to what her customers want, Shelli’s strategy to stay successful in business is “Live the life you love, love the life you live”…a good motto for anyone! The best part of being her own boss is bringing her cats to work with her some days. When asked what are her long term goals, Shelli tells us she just bought the building next door so who knows what is next for her. Whatever the future holds, it will only add to this success story!
